Read More Sustail clockwork mouse concept Designer Ahmet Bektes is proposing using centuries-old technology to provide the power for a familiar modern device. Rather than drawing energy from a computer or batteries, a user will need to remove a key from below the Sustail mouse and wind it up before being able to use it. It is hoped that the Bluetooth-connected input device would also encourage users to take regular breaks and have a more responsible attitude towards power consumption. Read More Samsung’s NX10 camera continues the trend towards DSLR miniaturisation The rapid evolution of the digital camera will continue unabated at CES this week, with the first announcement being another downsized DSLR system, this one from Samsung. The NX10 is much smaller than a traditional DSLR yet suffers little in comparison, shooting 720p video, running a 14.6 MPX APS-C size CMOS sensor and sporting a whopping 3.0 inch AMOLED screen, allowing users to easily view their images, even in bright sunlight. Most importantly, it’s following the trend begun by Panasonic with the Four Thirds System of DSLRs getting smaller and ridding themselves of fast-moving mirrors and other mechanicals carried over from another era. Already the ninth largest in the world it is expected to become one of the largest in the world several decades from now. Already the auto makers are developing specifically for the future, with Honda Siel Cars India (HSCI) pulling the covers off what has been dubbed the “Honda New Small Concept”, a very small vehicle with seating for five people. The world premier was aptly staged at the Auto Expo 2010 in New Delhi, India's leading auto show, along with new small cars from Toyota, Volkswagen, Nissan and Ford. Read More World’s tallest building opens with a new name: Burj Khalifa The world’s tallest building opened yesterday, with a number of surprises including a new name. The 828-meter Burj Khalifa after UAE President Khalifa Bin Zayed, now holds a raft of world records including the world’s highest occupied floor (160th floor), the world's highest observation deck (124th floor), the world's highest mosque (158th floor), the world's highest swimming pool (76th floor), and the world’s tallest service lift. The tower is so tall it can be seen 95 km away, and breaks the previous record by 63% - quite some feat - check the CTBUH Top 100 Tallest Buildings database and the World’s tallest structures list for all the numbers. Read More L5 Remote turns your iPhone/touch into a universal remote In this age of HDTVs, home theaters, game consoles and media streamers, you're likely to have a growing collection of remotes in your living room, and regularly battle the issues that arise with such a collection. Inconsistent designs, missing battery covers, a myriad rechargeable AA batteries, a significant other who still can't figure out how to play a DVD, and our favorite - not being able to find the remote for the TV. Logitech's Harmony series of universal remotes are one answer to the problem, but L5 Technology has a promising device that will turn an iPhone or iPod touch into a customizable universal remote for just US$50. Read More iSwing iPhone App analyses your golf swing The advent of ever-more sophisticated software being at our immediate disposal via smart phones will continue to transform our lives in many ways, some we probably haven't even considered prior to now. The USD$5.99 iSwing iPhone application allows users to record their golf swing on video and replay it frame-by-frame in slow motion and analyze their flaws by drawing lines over their screen to make sure they’re “on-plane.” This swing analysis application represents remarkable value, given that professional swing analysis usually costs USD$60 a visit. Read More Roehr set to unveil 96 bhp electric sports motorcycle Roehr Motorcycles, producers of the American-built 180 bhp 1250sc sportbike, is to introduce two electric motorcycles before mid-year, topped by a 96 bhp motorcycle with race level performance, 210 lb/ft of torque, and premium suspension and brake components which it has dubbed the eSuperbike. Significantly, even a lower spec eSupersport model with 48 bhp, 105 lb/ft of torque will top 100 mph. No details have yet been announced on the range of the bikes, but viable electric sports motorcycles are clearly going to be available before the end of the year. Read More The Gibson Dusk Tiger: Robot guitar technology moves to v2.0 Gibson is pushing forward in its quest to build the most technologically advanced guitars on the planet, undeterred by many guitarists' disdain for its Robot Guitar technology and recent design choices. The New Dusk Tiger is an evolution of the Dark Fire, and it maintains and expands upon the Dark Fire's ability to tune itself in seconds and produce a huge range of tones. While it's a fully analogue instrument, the Dusk Tiger can be plugged into a PC to change tone, EQ and tuning settings to provide a range of customisation and gig setup options that simply dwarf the capabilities of any guitar that's come before it. Pity, then, that behind that glowing Master Control Knob it's packing a face only a mother could love! Read More Consumer interest in Google Android soars More consumers than ever are considering the purchase of an Android-powered smartphone according to ChangeWave Research, who surveyed 4,068 consumers in December. The research shows that 21% of consumers who plan on buying a smartphone in the next 90 days would prefer their smartphone to run Android, up from 6% in September 2009. Read More The Phobia-free Pastrana Show continues In the world of Xtreme sport, there are many individuals who have performed countless daring feats beyond the pale, but none have been doing ridiculously dangerous things for the very first time, and pulling them off, as long and as consistently as Travis Pastrana. On New Years Eve, Pastrana pulled off the world's longest car jump at the Red Bull: New Year. No Limits Party (where else), in Long Beach California. Not only did he break the existing mark of 171 feet, he set a new world record of 269 feet, extending the world record by 43%. After being the first to attempt a backflip jump on a motorcycle in competition, Pastrana was beaten to achieving the feat but has since been the first to achieve a front flip, the first to achieve a double backflip, not to mention being the first person to jump out of a plane without a parachute, B.A.S.E. jump into the Grand Canyon off a motorcycle and the first (and quite possibly the only) person to ever backflip a kid's tricycle. Read More The Horizon Fuel Cell Technologies HYDROFILL - personal desktop hydrogen station Singaporean company Horizon Fuel Cell Technologies will release a small home hydrogen refueling and storage solution at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas later this week that could kickstart mankind’s transition to a hydrogen-based economy. The HYDROFILL is a small desktop device that plugs into the power supply, a solar panel or a small wind turbine, and automatically extracts hydrogen from its water tank and stores it in a solid form in small refillable cartridges. The cartridges contain metallic alloys that absorb hydrogen into their crystalline structure, a storage method which the company claims offers the highest volumetric energy density of any form of hydrogen storage, even higher than liquid hydrogen.
