Tonight Panorama explores the myths and realities behind the new Vetting and Barring scheme. It is estimated that more than 9 million people who habitually work with vulnerable adults and children will fall under the scheme. So if you volunteer to work with children or help out at your local school, you too might need to be cleared. But who will decide who is safe to work with children? Will the register help deter paedophiles or put off much needed helpers? The government insists it has taken on board concerns but the scheme has many critics, including veteran actor Ian McKellen who gave his take to Panorama.
